Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Properties of Saffron
Saffron has warm and dry nature according to Iran's Old Medicine point of view. Treatment of depression is considered as the most significant pharmaceutical property of saffron which was used from old times.
Drinking saffron tea will facilitate food digestive which is regarded as the other pharmaceutical property of saffron.
Hereunder are regarded as the properties of saffron:
- Food digestive, stomach stimulator, anti-flatulence, sexual drive stimulator, sedative especially in gingival and colic pains, anti-tumor, anti-cancer, anti-depressant, sedative in neural pains, tranquilizer, good for sleep, memory refresher, good for attention, anti-convulsion, anti-spasm, anti-Alzheimer, anti-Parkinson, mitigating of high blood pressure and cholesterol, good for treatment of anemia caused by shortage of iron in girls, risk decreasing substance for heart attack and hardening of arteries, heart flourishing (for its vitamins, thiamine, riboflavin and minerals), anti-asthma, good for treatment of cold and cough, blood increasing substance in retina, good for treatment disorders in retina caused by oldness, good for treatment of symptoms of retinopathy ischemic, good for treatment of bruise and rheumatism as an external ointment, good for treatment of dysentery, measles, hepatitis, splenomegaly and urinary tact infection, etc.
- For various and unbelievable properties of saffron, it is widely used in food, pharmaceutical, sanitary, cosmetic, and perfume industries.
- Not only saffron has not artificial coloring side effects like allergies or instigation, but also it is rich in vitamins B1, B2, B6 and vitamin C as well as other nutrient substances needed for body.
- Generally, use saffron if you want to be fresh, pleasant and happy.
The old formula of saffron is used for years in regulating monthly period among women and opening menstrual of women. Generally speaking, saffron plays a leading role in this respect.
- Tartaric iron and potassium: 0.5% gr.
- Saffron powder: 0.5% gr.
- Cinnamon powder: 2 gr.
Use this mixture four times a day.
Saffron Powder:
Dry saffron at microwave oven in 25 degrees of centigrade and then grind it. Then, use thin-netted sieve with the aim of obtaining a very soft powder.
Detrimental and Disadvantages:
Since saffron will leave negative effect on reproduction system, pregnant women should avoid consuming it. Because, consuming saffron by pregnant women may abort their infant at embryo. Surplus consumption of saffron is detrimental to kidneys. Excess saffron consumption will lessen appetite and will cause headache and also will cause mental disorder.
Saffron should be kept in cap-closed glasses, away from being exposed to direct sunlight. If saffron is exposed to direct sunlight, it will lose its color and fragrance.
ISNA is of the opinion that if saffron is consumed logically, it will bring about pleasure, freshness and enjoys pharmaceutical properties.
Mina Karimi, expert nutritionist also believes that consumption of three gram saffron each month is appropriate for a person. In other words, it is recommended that each person should consume three gr saffron per each month. Consuming five gr saffron in each food period will cause side affect such as vertigo, reducing number of heart palpitation (pulse) and feeling of nausea (vomiting). Also, the said rate of consuming saffron in the long run of pregnancy will increase probability of abortion. Generally speaking, consumption of saffron is good and beneficial if consumed logically and wisely, details of which have been mentioned in above.
